Around 1814 work began on a new Church in Ballinamore by Fr James McGauran, PP who later became Bishop of Ardagh in 1815. His successor Fr Hugh O Reilly continued the work and the Church was dedicated in 1820. The dedication stone is now inserted in the outer rear wall of the present church.
In 1944 Canon John O Reilly PP launched a fund to build a new church in Ballinamore and this work was continued by Monsignor Michael Kelly PP and Fr Young, CC who bought a site in the centre if the town on High Street.
The new St Patrick’s cost £68,623 and was búit where the old Methodist Church and two houses – McAllister’s and Martha McPartland’s had once stood.
